Operation Cunucu – Aruba

Operation Cunucu – Aruba

In 2016, in conjunction with local Aruban animal welfare organizations and the support of the Aruban government, Animal Balance held a targeted TNR and MASH demonstration clinic for dogs. Cunucu is the local name given to street dogs, hence Operation Cunucu! In one week, we sterilized 312 dogs, 58 of those had been trapped at the local dump and 105 had been transported into the clinic from the most impoverished area of the island. Our goal was to target the dogs who were most in need and without our help, would probably never see a veterinarian in their lifetime. The campaign was a tremendous success and local and Dutch organizations are now continuing the work and are planning annual, targeted TNR and MASH clinics.
