Run for Galapagos 2017

Put on your running or walking shoes, grab your friends and pooch (make sure poochie is in shape) and head out on a 5k or 10k course of your choice.  You can run or walk on your own time, on your personal course, receive a medal and a dog scarf for your efforts and your registration fee will benefit the dog population on the Galapagos Islands.

Thirteen years ago, Animal Balance joined forces with the Galapagos National Park Service, the governmental agencies and the community to create a humane animal management program to protect all species of the islands, native and nonnative.   We have helped to reduce the population of cats and dogs on the Galapagos Islands, one of the most delicate and important archipelagos on planet earth. Animal Balance helps communities all around the world to humanely reduce their cat and dog populations and improve the overall health of the animals and the community.

In March of this year, the Ecuadorian authorities gave permission for the importation of the dog vaccine that prevents the diseases; Distemper, Hepatitus, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza and the Parvovirus. Up to now all dogs have been susceptible to these diseases and as consequence have died a horrible death.

Now we can change that, we have permission to vaccine all the dogs on the Galapagos Islands and sterilize any who are still in-tact. The vaccine costs $5.40 each and there are 3,000 dogs on the 4 inhabited islands. Our goal is to raise sufficient funds to vaccinate all 3,000 dogs which is scheduled in October of this year.
